WRO 2019 ON TOUR - TRAVEL PROGRAM

The celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the WRO Media Art Biennale are not only part of a series of exhibitions, debates, performances or late hours of discussions. The key value of the biennial is the transport of thoughts and conclusions confronted in Wrocław towards other spaces. It is an inseparable part of the programme - from exhibiting art from all over the world to travels by art mediators with selected materials within the WRO on Tour programme.

Ideas, concepts and things move in our social imaginarium to a great extent thanks to art. More than 100 works exhibited in Wrocław spaces were looking for a formula for a suggestion, contained in the slogan of the 18th edition of CZYNNIK LUDZKI/HUMAN ASPECT, of a frequently pushed out of global consciousness, because for us it is transparent, human presence and activity, in a world affected by post-true and crises.

Among the wealth of video works, installations, media objects and performances presented during several dozen of this year's programmes, exhibitions and presentations, Piotr Krajewski, the artistic director of the WRO Biennale, selected 20 works that grasped and explored the issues of contemporary times in their own, authorial way, for which the hitherto methods of presentation lost their interpretative power.

WRO on Tour shows and exhibitions are presented in artistic institutions and during events and festivals in Poland and abroad until the next edition of the WRO Biennale.

During the SPEKTRUM Festival, the WRO ON TOUR #5: Two for Once programme will be presented:

BlurBoyz (Dennis Michael, Khieffer Beviz, Istvan Hollos, Mátyás Wettl) (HU), Nocturne, 2017,
04:59
Joacélio Batista (BR), ICH BIN DER ÜBERMENSCH, 2018, 09:28
Daria Jelonek (DE), Technological Nature, 2017, 03:54
Magdalena Łazarczyk, Zuza Golińska (PL), Nothing Twice (Nic dwa razy), 2017, 06:24
Jana Shostak, Jakub Jasiukiewicz (PL/BY), Marsz, 2018, 06:38
Guli Silberstein (GB), Field of Infinity, 2018, 05:22
Andrés Baron (CO), Printed Sunset, 2017, 06:21

Live and artificial. Movement and motionlessness. Documentation and transformation.

Each of the works presented in the set presents the problem of duality and coexistence of different, sometimes extremely incompatible, elements in a proper way. Both in terms of social tensions (as in the case of Shostak and Jasiukiewicz) and those resulting from the interpenetrating worlds of nature and technology (Baron, Jelonek). In all the works that make up the "Two for One" show, one can see a very clear common element - CZYNNIK LUDZKI - also present in the title of this year's edition of the WRO Media Art Biennale. Thus, man, put in a posttechnological perspective, becomes the main hero, initiator, recipient, and sometimes a victim of the changes taking place in the contemporary world.

The combination of two natures often creates a new quality. The sum of disadvantages gives their opposite. By combining two elements we obtain a substance with different properties, which may be accompanied by the release of energy. The presented works have just such a potential: by combining Two for One they trigger a reaction, whose energy is used to show the duality of the contemporary world. A review of works, including works from all over the world, shows how widely contemporary artists understand, interpret and artistically transform the concept of duality, using the whole range of technological means available to them.

5th Świdnica Film Festival SPEKTRUM is an event presenting a wide range of film genres, including titles with their world premieres in 2018-2019. Apart from outstanding films carefully selected from the current repertoire of the so-called arthouse cinema presented in four competitions, the programme of the festival abounds in a number of accompanying events: lectures, meetings with filmmakers, workshops and special screenings. This is the largest event in Lower Silesia presenting artistic cinema. This year, the SPEKTRUM merged with the „The Youth Perspective” Documentary Film Festival, taking the best of both events.

The festival includes the Main Competition with the 10 most interesting films of the season, screenings are accompanied by meetings and discussions. What is the most important: the only jury in this struggle remains the festival audience. The event also includes a rich section „The Youth Perspective” with a feature and documentary competition for short films by artists up to 35 years of age and a competition for amateurs up to 21 years of age, as well as one of the largest VR films review in Poland. Another festival novelty is the „Eyes for Docs” section with the most important non-fiction films of recent months, as well as special events related to Andrzej Wajda’s Retrospective, which includes film screenings, mural’s reveiling with the Master’s likeness and the ceremonial inauguration of the Andrzej Wajda Roundabout.

In addition, we will also have a chance to meet the stars of the cinema, discuss, accompany events and concerts.
